Hi, my name is Wojtek and today i wanna show you Numark Mixtrack Pro 2 device.
First what I noticed after unpacking this stuff are pads of course.
It’s some kind of standard these days, set by various producers.
Pads are for controlling effects, turning them on/off
they can be used for making cue points of course, it’s very convenient and enables to do interesting manipulations of sound.
Pads are made very well for a device in this price range, i can't complain about them
if someone wants such quality as MPC pads, will be not satisfied
It doesn’t change the fact that buttons are pleasant to the touch
I think they would resist a lot of hits.
Another important thing I would like to mention are jog-wheels
Jog-wheels, otherwise platters
are the feature with which music stored on your computer in mp3 format can be controlled just with a program such as Serato DJ.
I have some reservation to platters function
In my opinion they’re too small, but unfortunately it’s common in such compact devices
Also they’re incredibly light, what makes problems during pitchbending,
when you touch the platter accidentally, songs can completely lose they synchronization.
It’s quite inconvenient, jog-wheels should have more resistance, or at least some possibility of its regulation.
I have to say something about mixer section.
We have here everything what is available in any DJ mixer
There is a control the left and right channel, tri-band EQ, I mean the low, medium and high tones
and also there is the MASTER fader thanks which we can control the volume of the sound that comes out in a crowd
There's nothing very special about mixer section. It's typical 2 Channel DJ mixer with adjustable crossfader.
The effects section is very good
To each pad one effect is adjusted, according to what we define in Serato DJ
it can be Echo, Hi/Lo-Pass Filter, Reverb, Distortion, there is a large variety of options
Over each pad there is a *** that allows to control an intensity of chosen effect
which is a very nice solution also common in other devices
allowing us to make fast, interesting, even aggressive transitions
so we can play a lot of songs in a very short time.
What I dislike in such devices, is pitchfader, because it is not known from Pioneer cd-players 100mm pitchfader
or from the ordinary turntable
it is 60 mm pitchfader 60 mm, which is much shorter
However it allows to beatmatch quite comfortably
if we already have experience in this field
but when you set the value of pitchfader at 50%, manualy beatmatching becomes almost impossible
just because of its small size
You can use it as a effect, changing dynamically speed of a track and playing cuepoints
which will give us few cool effects
otherwise using it for beatmatching is not very practical.
The device as many others in this segment has SYNC feature
that let us automatically, in a program, match tempo of a 1st and 2nd deck, without caring about manual synchronization.
If it’s about strictly technical issues, at back you will find the master output, there is nothing more.
On the right side of device we can find two headphones outputs (6.3mm and small one) and this is pretty cool
because many times I forgot to take my adapter from home
This is great advantage of Mixtrack, I haven’t seen this before in any other controller
We can find there also MIC input wich can be adjusted by gray ***.
To Sum it up, it’s really good piece of hardware, but we must bear in mind, that this is not for professional use
I’m afraid that this controller it’s not suitable for club environment.
Especially faders, which seems to be quite good, but they are not excellent
this device is perfect for small house-parties, small mobile setup, but like I said before it’s not for professional use.
Despite that I complained about this piece of gear
i mean short pitchfader or extremaly light jog-wheels
i think that this is really good controller in this price range
although there is a lot of different controllers
controllers like Reloop Digital Jockey 3 Master Edition or new modular CMD series made by Behringer
. But they are made for more advance users, and they have features that beginners simply don’t need.
So, if you want to start mixing and you’re looking for some not expensive gear
which gives you opportunity to try real club mixing, I highly recommend Numark Mixtrack Pro 2.
